1 · The guide
Set up your desk
- Screen: top of the screen at about eye level, roughly an arm's length away.
- Chair: supports your lower back. Feet flat on the floor (a box or footrest works).
- Keyboard and mouse: close to you, wrists straight, shoulders relaxed.
- Laptop all day? Raise it on a stand or books, and use a separate keyboard and mouse.
- Light: a window to the side of the screen, not behind or in front of it, so there's no glare.
- Breaks: a short break or a change of task regularly. Every 20 minutes or so, look at something far away for 20 seconds.
2 · Good to know
Most fixes are free
- Use what you have: books or a box under a laptop, a rolled towel or cushion behind your lower back, a box as a footrest, moving your desk so the window is to the side.
- Pain or discomfort? Tell us early. We'll work through free fixes with you.
- A health condition or disability affected by your setup? Tell us so we can talk it through. The government's Access to Work scheme can fund specialist equipment.
- Eye tests (employees): if you're employed by CCA and use a screen most days for an hour or more at a time, you can ask for an eye test and CCA will cover it, as the law requires. If the optician says you need glasses just for screen work, we cover a basic pair.
- Wellbeing: working remotely can be isolating, and creator work can be intense. If your workload or how you're feeling isn't OK, tell Edric or Reece. That's part of this too.
- Home safety: check chargers and cables aren't damaged, keep walkways clear, and make sure there's a working smoke alarm at home.
